Brake Pad Bed-In (Burnishing) Procedure

Proper bed-in is essential for maximum performance and pad life. Complete these steps before aggressive riding:

1. 2–3 slow, gradual stops — from ~12 MPH to a near stop. Gently drag the brake; do not come to a sudden full stop.
2. 2–3 medium-speed stops — from ~18 MPH to zero using moderate braking force.
3. 2–3 hard stops — from ~18 MPH to zero with firm pressure, just short of locking up.

Skipping this step can lead to poor performance, noise, or premature wear.

Pro Tip

Most off-road riders wear through rear pads faster. If you're on a budget, upgrade the rear to ceramic and run copper fiber pads up front. On our shop's 2025 Mantis X “Yoshi,” stock OEM rear pads lasted only ~275 miles — copper fiber pads will outlast them significantly.
